As his 99th birthday approaches, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, remains an international symbol of resilience and courage in the face of all dangers.

In 1952, Alerta newspaper published an article addressed to the President of the Republic in which he was accused of treason to the Homeland, prostituting the spirit of presidential grace, promoting large estates, and distorting and diminishing the role of the armed forces. The person who signed the complaint was Fidel Castro.

At just 25 years old, the tenacious lawyer followed the orthodox doctrine of Eduardo Chibas and began an activity that would be linked to his attitude and convictions: putting his pen at the service of the cause and spreading, from any perspective, what he believed to be right.

Multiple challenges and epic adventures would follow, along with other spaces where the edge of his oratory made the island’s enemies tremble.

The United Nations (UN) later proved to be one of the most favorable venues for expressing his ideas. He returned to that podium in 1979 as President of Cuba and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Some time later, Fidel surprised the media again in 2000 when he covered, with a handkerchief, the timer used to measure speeches at the General Assembly. This was his last address to the UN, where he courageously called for the restructuring of the Security Council. He also warned of the need for independence in the new times to come.

His courage allowed him to unmask imperialism repeatedly.

In addition to his political thinking, he stands out as one of the greatest exponents of military art worldwide due to his leadership and ability to combine tactical methods.
