Levern Spencer of St. Lucia picked up her first victory of the indoor campaign after clearing a season’s best 1.86m to win the women’s high jump at the Hvezdy v Nehvizdech – World Athletics Indoor Continental Tour Bronze level meeting on Friday (6).

Spencer, who opened her season with a 1.80m performance for 10th place at the Banskobystrická latka high jump meeting earlier this week, returned Friday to put a better series together on her way to taking the victory in the Czech Republic.

The Olympic 6th place finisher from Rio 2016 entered the competition at 1.75m before skipping the next height of 1.78m. The 36-year-old veteran then cleared 1.81m, 1.84m and 1.86m all on the second attempt.

Slovenian Maruaa Cernjul finished second with a clearance of 1.84m, with Czech jumper Michaela Hruba collected third with a clearance of 1.80m.

Belgian Thomas Carmoy took the men’s high jump title with a mark of 2.24m, the same height as Italian Gianmarco Tamberi.

However, Carmoy got the nod on countbacks after using just one try to go over three earlier heights, while Tamberi needed extra attempts to navigate over the crossbar at those same levels.

Another highlighted victory at the Hvezdy v Nehvizdech meeting was home favorite Tomas Stanek, who captured the men’s Shot Put competition.

Stanek, who won bronze medals at the 2018 World Indoor and 2019 European Indoor Championships, tossed the shot 21.21m in the third round of the competition to land the victory.

Egyptian Mostafa Amer Hassan threw 20.93m for second, while Bob Bertemes of Luxembourg took third with 20.48.

Jamaican Ashinia Miller was fifth with 19.63m.

Elsewhere, Slovenian Neja Filipic won the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.45m with Reynold Banigo of Great Britain taking the men’s event with a mark of 7.73m.
