Cuba Seeks Redemption on Day Three of Asunción 2025
especiales

With the echoes of a lackluster performance still fresh, the Cuban delegation will take to the stage today in the third day of the II Junior Pan American Games, determined to shine where yesterday there was shadow.
The morning in the Paraguayan capital begins at the bay, where Claudia Tolón and Natalie Morales will open the day in the women’s double sculls, followed by the men’s coxless four in their bid for a spot on the podium.
Under the sharp metallic crack of gunfire, Jonathan González will compete in the 10-meter air rifle, while the blade of Marlon Alejandro García will cross steel early in the fencing hall. In the pool, Andrea Becali and Laurent Estrada will aim to master the 200 meters freestyle and backstroke, respectively, with strokes of hope.
On the tatami, Christian Cordero (-73 kg) and Wendy Martínez (-63 kg) will take on judo as both a fight and a chance for redemption. On the archery range, Abraham Pérez, Elaimis Ramos, and Rosalicia Domínguez will test their aim and nerves against opponents from Guatemala, the United States, and Brazil.
The small ball of tennis will roll for Meliza Pérez and Yohan Michel Sánchez in their singles debuts, while in badminton a Cuban player will face Guatemala’s Yeison del Cid.
At midday, Lourdes Medero and Erisnelki Cruz will aim for the podium in the women’s air rifle, and the afternoon will close with the women’s volleyball team facing Costa Rica, seeking to restore to the Island the roar that yesterday was little more than a whisper.
On the previous day, Cuba celebrated only one moment of glory: the bronze medal won by the men’s eight with coxswain in rowing, the sole medal so far in their modest haul at the continental event.
