Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, thanked Cuba on Tuesday for sending a brigade of health workers to support the confrontation of the COVID-19 in the Piedmont region.

"A beautiful piece of news. The working group from Cuba made up of 21 doctors and 16 nurses, arrived in Turin to help our white forces who have been working tirelessly for weeks in our hospitals. Thank you, Cuba," Di Maio wrote on his Twitter account.

The acknowledgment by the foreign minister of Cuba's gesture of solidarity is added to the numerous expressions of sympathy and gratitude paid to the medical brigade since its arrival Monday in the Piedmont capital, where it was welcomed with many gestures of affection, highlights Prensa Latina.

Among them, those of the leading regional and municipal authorities, headed by the governor, Alberto Cirio, and the mayor of Turin, Chiara Appendino, who received the team on the airport runway, together with the Cuban ambassador in Italy, Jose Carlos Rodriguez.

This is the second group of members of the Henry Reeve International Brigade specialized in disaster situations and epidemics, sent by Cuba at the request of the authorities of the regions of Lombardy and Piedmont.

The first, composed of 36 doctors, 15 nursing graduates, and a logistics specialist, has been working since last March 22 in a field hospital in Crema, a Lombard city of some 34,000 inhabitants.
