The evolving geopolitical and security dynamics in the Horn of Africa were the focus of Thursday's talks between the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Government of Japan, within the framework of TICAD9.

IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu revealed on his X profile that the meeting with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Fujii Hisayuki, as part of the parallel agenda of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), is held in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

Gebeyehu informed that they agreed to strengthen collaboration to promote human security, youth empowerment, peace, and stability.

He also expressed gratitude to the Japanese Government and people for their strong support of IGAD initiatives, particularly the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, and the African organization’s Leadership Academy.

Upon participating in the opening of the conference under the theme “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa” on Wednesday, he highlighted the collective determination and action in favor of multilateralism as the best solution for a stable and secure international system.

The high-level meeting brings together African leaders, international partners, and global institutions.
