Long ago was Omara Durand in her home town far from realizing that her efforts would be rewarded with becoming the queen of speed in Paralympic Games.

The para-athlete closed a golden chapter on the Stade de France track by winning the 200 meters at the Paris 2024 Games, category T12, to reach the figure of 11 Paralympic gold medals, a path that began in London 2012, with her triumphs in the 100 and 400 meters (T13).

The Cuban winner said goodbye to her active sport career with tears in her eyes, always accompanied by her faithful squire Yuniol Kindelan, both received applause and cheers of the French fans.

Durand confirmed her retirement by saying, “these tears are of happiness, of satisfaction, I will miss doing what I have always done, but I am sure life will reward me in other ways from now on.”

Meanwhile, Kindelan was also touched and expressed his satisfaction with the duo’s award-winning career in the beautiful games.

“We started as the best and ended up being the best,” he said.
