ART IN CUBA: The Upsetting Stories of Lancelot Alonso
especiales
What’s important is the face, the expression, the story the artist discovers or invents. What’s important is the person and what the person inspires. It’s the starting point of the fabulation, of a truly dreamlike story.
The context is often secondary, often a mere setting. It’s recreated with a few strokes. The "complexity" rests in the human being.
Lancelot Alonso is once again the chronicler, the invisible mediator between his characters and the spectator. But obviously he is not a passive and innocent mediator. He creates universes for his creatures. Lyrical, disturbing, fantastic... It’s the flow of an imagination that overflows.
These may be faces the artist saw in passing, people he crossed paths with before moving on. Lancelot has made them part of his own story. He has "unloaded" his own obsessions, his fears and hopes, his daydreams.
From the eyes of these people, the artist looks at us.
On ArteMorfosis platform there’s a selection of pieces made by the artist: https://goo.su/Voh0Czg
