Racket in hand, Cuba’s para table tennis player Yunier Fernandez Izquierdo has knocked down every windmill in his way at the 2024 Paralympic Games, and only one remains standing between him and the shiniest of golds.

Regardless of the size of any “giant with blades”, the two-time Pan American champion has made history by winning his every match and securing the second place, as Cuba had never before earned a medal in Olympic wheelchair tennis.

Yunier several along the roadside, namely Egypt's Eslam Raslan, Britain’s Thomas Matthews, and Italy’s Federico Falco, and he will now go for the gold medal on Friday against the British Robert Davies, a former rugby player who became champion at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The Cuban still has tears in his eyes from so much emotion, knowing he is capable of knocking down windmills or giants, because he is also great.
