The feature presentation competition at the International New Latin American Film Festival in Havana includes interesting proposals. This Tuesday, *Sin corazón*, a co-production between Brazil, France, and Italy directed by Tiáo and Nara Normande was presented in Acapulco Theater. It´s one of those films that show the moral and psychological growth of its characters, and is based on the short film of the same name that was awarded at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes 2014. The social differences, with the prejudices they convey, juvenile delinquency, eroticism, and violence come together in a feature film that emphatically emphasizes the often complex transition between the end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood.
All the Fires, the first feature film by Mexican director Mauricio Calderón, also deals with adolescence. Calderón has said that it´s an initiation film; it has a lot to do with the changes of a stage in which the character must accept many things. The protagonist of the story is Bruno, a boy who likes to set things on fire and broadcast it on video. One day he decides to run away from home... and there begins a real trail of arsoning. It will be presented at Yara Cinema.
A Few Suggestions
This Wednesday, the Argentine-Uruguayan co-production The Wind That Devastates, directed by Paula Fernández, is presented in the Latin American competition. Entranpled in the blind faith of his father, Reverend Pearson, Leni accompanies him on his evangelical mission. An accident forces them to stop at a workshop and the Reverend becomes obsessed with saving the soul of the mechanic's son. The running, at Yara Cinema. Extraño camino, by Brazilian Guto Parente, is ran in Acapulco Cinema. It tells the unique encounter between a father and a son. While La Rampa Cinema will show Transfariana, from Colombia, directed by Joris Lachaise, a documentary about the unexpected love between a trans woman and a former guerrilla member in prison. There are plenty of options. Take your pick...
