The 20th International Labor Organization (ILO) Regional Conference for labor professionals will be held from May 19th to 23rd at the African Union Conference Center in this capital.

Under the theme “Resilient Communities and Healthy Environments: An Employment-Intensive Investment Program (EIIP) Approach,” the event is being organized by the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure and the Ethiopian Roads Administration together with the ILO.

Global policymakers, planners, practitioners, and researchers will be exchanging ideas on policies and programs that promote decent jobs and sustainable livelihoods in Africa.

Speakers at the conference include ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo; Ethiopian Ministers of Labor and Skills Muferihat Kamil; Representatives of the ILO, Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs; Fitsum Aseffa, Minister of Planning and Development; Fanfan Rwanyindo, Regional Director of the UN specialized agency for labor issues in Africa; Martha Phiri, Director of the Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Division of the African Development Bank Group, among others.

Ethiopia hosted the 17th ILO Regional Seminar from November 13rd to 17th, 2017, under the theme “Delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The Employment-Intensive Investment Approach.”

Participants discussed the role and contribution of employment approaches in achieving the SDG outcomes, focusing primarily on building national capacity for job creation, expanding the social protection floor and environmental conservation, including combating climate change and its adverse effects.
