The Popular Savings Bank (BPA) on Wednesday condemned corporate identity theft actions on the entity, as part of a media hype aimed at discrediting the Cuban government and institutions.

The cyberattack was rolled out by using a ¨phishing¨ method, by which perpetrators steal people's particulars by promising rewards on behalf of a trustworthy body, according to BPA.

Text messages (SMS and instant messaging such as WhatsApp) were used for the deception, in which issuer impersonated the BPA.

BPA called on the Cuban people to be much more alert to these messages and strongly recommended not to provide particulars that could affect their monetary or phone balances, as well as to immediately contact BPA by using the different communication channels.

Cuban authorities, experts and social organizations have condemned the increased cyberattacks originating from accounts based in cyberspace, mainly in the United States, as part of the fourth generation warfare (4GW).
