Cuban space Saturday Books dedicated to women and art

The traditional space Saturday Books, convened by the Cuban Book Institute (ICL), will present this March 8, International Women's Day, the title Verónica Lynn, a life in art. Authored by Yana Elsa Brugal, this title was published in 2024 by Ediciones En Vivo, and will be the reason for the meeting scheduled for 11:00, local time, on Madera Street in the Historic Center of Havana, as announced by the ICL.

Verónica Lynn, National Theater Award (2003) and Television Award (2006), is a fundamental figure in Cuban art, whose acting career dates back to the 1950s.

Since then, she has been immersed in the stage field, maintaining an active and vibrant presence. She was born on May 7, 1931 in San Diego de los Baños, Pinar del Río. She graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte with a specialization in Theater Studies.

In her own words: “I always dreamed of being an artist. I say that I am the happiest woman in the world because I managed to be what I always wanted: an actress.”

The texts presented in this work contribute to preserving the history of Cuban stage traditions.

Although the book is not specifically a biography of Verónica in terms of following, step by step, the details of her life, significant moments of her existence are revealed.

The author of the text, Yana Elsa Brugal Almanza, graduated in Acting from the National School of Art in Cuba in 1970, and in Theatre Studies from the State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema in Leningrad (former USSR) in 1980, where she later obtained a Doctorate in Artistic Sciences in 1984.

Her publications include more than a dozen essays on drama and the representation of Afro-Cuban culture in the National Theatre, as well as dramaturgical advice for film and television.
