Havana, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban shooter Leuris Pupo, champion at London 2012, on Monday revealed his ambition to participate in seven or eight Olympic Games.

“I think it can be done. First, I will prepare for Paris 2024, thanks to the fact that the number of places that will be given at events in the Americas rose to 4. Then we will see the road to Los Angeles 2028,” Pupo told the digital weekly daily Jit.

The Cuban athlete, 44, won the silver medal in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the sixth one he has participated in, the same result of Cuban shooter Guillermo Alfredo Torres.

Both can participate in their seventh Olympic Games (Paris 2024), but Torres has not qualified for one since London 2012.

Pupo has participated in Olympic Games since Sydney 2000 and has always ranked among the nine top shooters, the only athlete with this background in his specialty.

In the history of shooting only seven shooters have participated in seven or more Olympic Games, a list led by Lithuania’s Afanasij Kuzmin (nine), Peru’s shotgunner Francisco Boza (eight) and Slovenia’s riffleman Rajmond Debevec (eight).

Pupo’s road to procure a place in Paris 2024 will start at the Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, slated from October 12 to 25.
