Cuban Sheyla wins silver and bronze at IBSA World Championship in Baku

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 11 (ACN) Cuban Sheyla Samarian Hernandez, in the over 78 kilograms (kg) in the J2 category, finished with silver and bronze medals at the IBSA World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the individual and team tournaments, respectively.
On Wednesday, Sheyla won the silver medal after losing in the final to Italy's Carolina Costa, and on Thursday she won bronze with a team representing the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) along with four other J1 and J2 parajudo players from the same number of countries.
Samarian Hernandez shared bronze with Turkey, beaten by Ukraine (gold) and Brazil (silver), with India in last place.
The ranking table of the competition site presented the following ordes, Ukraine (first place), Brazil (second), Turkey (third), Cuba (fourth) and India (fifth), and should have put two third places, as usual.
The complete performance of Cuba was completed with the fifth place of Yordani Fernandez (+90 kg-J2), Paralympic champion of Rio de Janeiro 2016, who discussed the bronze with an injured finger, and with the setbacks in their debuts of Reynaldo Zamora (90 kg-J1), Yonardi Gonzalez (60 kg-J1) and Jennys Garcia (60 kg-J1).
Unfortunately, Dalidaivis Rodriguez (70 kg-J2), Paralympic titleholder in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, could not compete, as she was not approved for her new category and now waits for a new opportunity to be evaluated again by an international tribunal.
Cuba couldn't compete in the women's and men's team event due to the lack of the required number of competitors.
