Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today sent congratulations to his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on his re-election as head of the African nation.
“We trust that, under your leadership, the Algerian people will maintain their path of peace and prosperity,” Díaz-Canel said on the social network X.
The Cuban head of state also ratified the will to continue strengthening ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
The day before, Tebboune won the early presidential elections with 94.65 percent of the total votes.
Cuba and Algeria have maintained close ties since the independence of that African country in 1962 and their collaboration covers the sectors of health, energy, construction, education, culture and sports, among others.
Since May 23, 1963, when the first Internationalist Medical Brigade arrived in Algeria, thousands of Cuban professionals have served in the African nation.
