Cuba reinforces alliances with the purpose of securing its food sovereignty in a context of global crisis and intensification of the US blockade.

This Monday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its assistance.

In a meeting held with the Deputy General Director and Regional Representative of that organization, Mario Lubetkin, the Cuban president reiterated Cuba’s will to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Lubetkin is visiting Cuba with the purpose of strengthening and consolidating the work with the Government in order to advance the food and nutrition security agenda, FAO reported in a statement.

Since 2020, Cuba has been developing a National Plan for Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education, which is based on the country’s capability to promote sustainable agriculture, taking into account environmental responsibilities, with the aim of guaranteeing access to a balanced, nutritious and innocuous diet for the population.

The essential objective is to achieve a State work management that should ease the organization of local, sovereign and sustainable food systems which will integrate production, transformation, commercialization and consumption of food and the promotion of food culture and nutritional education.

FAO provides technical assistance, methodologies, exchanges and collaborates in innovation in national agriculture.
