Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment reported the absence of acid rain as an effect of the fire that occurred at the supertanker base in the Matanzas province, as per the local press.

There is also no evidence of effects on animal and plant health in the town or nearby areas. Nearby ecosystems and protected areas have also not suffered damage.

The ministry also specified that there is no evidence of damage to human health as there is no reported increase in the number of patients with respiratory diseases or others that could be associated.

Air quality monitoring reveals that gas values are close to normal or within the norm.

The main damage, according to the newspaper, is in the soil of the supertanker base, and work is being done on the remediation strategies that will be applied, as well as on the deposition of the dangerous waste derived from the recovery works.
