The opening five years ago of the Caribbean Heroes Park was a tribute of the Cuban people to the fighters against colonialism and for the independence of the countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
The opening ceremony took place in 2019 with the presence of several members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, headed by Esteban Lazo Hernandez, current president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State.
Then, Theresa Clair Clarice Charles, ambassador of Grenada to Havana and dean of the diplomatic corps in the region, expressed her gratitude to the national authorities for the work, despite the economic, financial and commercial blockade by the United States, which she described as “cruel, disheartening and evil”.
Cuba and Caricom are united by historical ties, against colonialism, new colonialism and imperialism, and also by principles, mutual respect, non-interference, self-determination and the insistence that we are nobody's backyard, the diplomat said at the meeting.
The creation of the Caribbean Heroes Park was in charge of entities of the Ministry of Culture's entrepreneurial system, and its monument features a bundle of 14 tubes that represent each one of the member nations of the region.
It is located in the capital municipality of Playa, where there is also the Park of the African Heroes, the only one of its kind in the world, promoted by the Cuban-African Friendship Society and where images of some of the guides who contributed decisively to the fight against colonialism and to the unity of Africa are perpetuated.
