Cuba hosts International Documentary Film Festival

The 22nd International Documentary Film Festival “Santiago Alvarez In Memoriam” (FIDSA) opened its doors in this city with 159 works, 37 of them in competition.
FIDSA international president Osain Álvarez praised the importance of documentary films in the face of the current world crisis as a tool to fight disinformation and disseminate the history of the peoples by give a voice to those who do not have it and stressed that the new generations should learn about the Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano, a collection inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
Dedicated this year to the 510th anniversary of the city of Santiago de Cuba as well as to renowned actors, filmmakers and TV channels, FIDSA is mainly intended to highlight the unparalleled influence of documentary films on humanity’s cultural development.
