Beijing, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Several Chinese provinces on Tuesday made massive PCR tests and activated lockdown measures in many communities after a rise in the number of new Covid-19 patients was recorded.

The National Health Commission reported today 1,447 cases, among active and asymptomatic patients, with which the country has so far accumulated 5,868,459 contagions in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan since the disease broke out in December 2019. The death toll due to complications related to the disease in the last two years rose to 24,766.

The new Covid-19 outbreaks were detected in cities of Sichuan, Liaoning, Henan, and Heilongjiang provinces, and Tianjin municipality.

Apart from PCR tests, mobility restrictions, and closure of public places, local authorities postponed the opening of schools and some places plan to start classes online.

China has been besieged by the presence of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus since March, and its experts have recommended to administrate vaccines developed with different technologies as booster doses, as they increase the immune response of the human body to this mutation.
