In a press conference at the Egyptian Museum, Eckmann said that the assigned team is working on reattaching the mask’s beard, after it was hastily glued back with epoxy.

The German expert, who leads a joint German-Egyptian team, said that the best way to fix the mask can only be determined after assessing the damage caused by using epoxy.

The golden mask of Tutankhamun was damaged in 2014 during lighting maintenance in the Egyptian Museum in circumstances that are still unclear and sparked world-wide controversy.

After the incident was revealed Germany offered to restore the mask.

The golden mask of Tutankhamun is one of the most fabulous artifacts displayed in the Egyptian Museum, and weighs 11 kilograms of pure gold, inlaid with colored glass and precious stones.
