Cuba Claims Two Gold Medals in Athletics at Asunción 2025

Cuban athletes Diosber Hernández and Lisdanay González won two gold medals today in the men's high jump and women's triple jump finals at the 2025 Asunción Junior Pan American Games.
At the Athletics Stadium of the Paraguayan Olympic Park, Cuba's Diosber Hernández was crowned champion with a best jump of 2.07 meters in a flawless performance through the winning height.
A native of Sancti Spíritus province, Hernández, who has a personal best of 2.16 meters, outperformed silver medalist Santiago Barbería of Argentina and bronze medalist Jesús Vázquez of Mexico. Both competitors faulted at the 2.07-meter mark. Another favorite from Cuba, Manuel Rodríguez, who shares an identical personal best of 2.16m, finished in sixth place with a jump of 2.01 meters.
Minutes later, in the triple jump pit, Lisdanay González claimed the gold medal with a decisive leap on her fifth attempt.
The 19-year-old González achieved a new personal record of 13.96 meters (with a +0.6 m/s wind), surpassing her previous best of 13.44m. After two fouls and a first valid mark of 13.47m, the Cuban athlete found her best form during the crucial moments of the final to secure the gold.
Fellow Cuban Ariday Girón completed a strong performance for her country by earning the bronze medal in the same event. Her best jump of 13.43 meters (with a +1.4 m/s wind) came on her fourth attempt. Mexico's Paola Del Real took the silver medal with a jump of 13.58m.
Following the fourth day of competition, with one day of athletics events remaining, Cuba holds second place in the medal table for the sport with six gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. Colombia leads with an identical 6-3-3 count, while Canada sits in third place (5-6-0).
The day's athletics events for the Cuban team concluded with the 4x100 meter relays. The men's quartet, comprised of Glovis Domínguez, Reynaldo Espinosa, Deivi Rodríguez, and Yander Herrera, finished in fourth place with a time of 39.50 seconds. The women's team, composed of Rosmalby Quesada, Jocelyn Echazabal, Dianelys Alacán, and Betsi Casanova, placed fifth with a time of 47.28 seconds.
