A second shipment from the United Nations Program for Development (UNPD) has arrived in Santiago de Cuba in support of the recovery effort in the territories affected by Hurricane Matthew.
The shipment, part of so-called Plan of Action by the UNPD put in place before the hurricane, contains nine thousand plastic canvases for roofs and more than five thousand mattresses, which will be dedicated to a part of the population in these localities, according to a UN press release.
The new contribution complements the first delivery of
9,700 canvases and 20 stone cutters, which will be used to transform debris into building material.
More than 14 thousand families will also receive zinc sheets and other roofing material.
According to UNPD, these tools and materials will offer a lasting solution for roofing the affected houses.
