Network of Solidarity with Cuba in the United States expressed its support for the visit of President Barack Obama to the island on March 21-22, according to a statement released today. We urge Obama to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with the Cuban people and its government and commit to establishing a mutually respectful dialogue and at the same time recognize and accept the differences, the statement said.
The group, which is organizing the second "Days of Action against the Blockade in Washington D.C. on April 18-22, describes Obama's visit as historic.
The statement also notes that despite the measures taken by Obama, the economic, commercial and financial blockade remains intact; the full establishment of bilateral trade did not happen; the Cuban Adjustment Act remains in force and the funds to finance subversive programs are still available.
"We are part of the American people who want and demand a fair policy towards Cuba", the group emphasized.
