Cuban Food Industry Minister, Maria del Carmen Concepcion, paid tribute today to internationalist Cuban fighter, Raul Diaz Argüelles, at the capital's Alto de Las Cruces cemetery. Along with Cuban ambassador, Gisela Garcia, and the delegation accompanying her during her two-week working visit to Angola, Concepcion laid a wreath at the burial mound where the remains of Diaz Arguelles, who fell in combat on December 11, 1975, one month after the proclamation of national independence, rested.
During the simple tribute, the director of Cuban corporation Antex, Luis Alberto Gonzalez Nieto, recalled the circumstances of the death of the fighter, known as Domingo da Silva.
He said his death occurred after a mine explosion that destroyed his armored car at the Battle of Ebo,400 kilometers south of Luanda, in Kwanza Sul province. He recalled that the 40th anniversary of the death in combat of the revolutionary, "perennial inspiration among the Cuban internationalists," was marked on Dec. 11.
His memory currently inspires the Cuban internationalists who anywhere in the Angolan geography are collaborating in important sectors and works to develop the homeland of Agostinho Neto, the collaborator said.
Concepcion ended today her working visit to this African country, in the context of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
Invited by the Angolan Minister of Fisheries, Victoria de Barros Neto, the visit covered interests linked to fishing activity and the food industry.
