US Blockade To Cuba Affects Cancer Treatment in Children

Cuban health system guarantees the treatment of children suffering from cancer despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
Dr. Norma Pérez, an expert in pediatric oncology in Ciego de Avila, told Prensa Latina that although they are very expensive and it is difficult to purchase medicines abroad, no child has missed the drugs when they need it.
She explained that the first cause of death due to illness in children and adolescents in Cuba is cancer, which is why the state along with public health workers is committed to achieve high survival rates in patients.
According to her in that province there are 87 children suffering from oncological diseases and it is the responsibility of doctors to make an early diagnosis so that the patient can have a long life or cure their illness.
For three years the territory has been celebrating the Day For One Who Deserves Love, organized by the Provincial Department of the Cuban Society of Pediatrics, whose purpose is to give a little love and joy to the sick children and their families.
