Republican Hopefuls Promise to Roll Back Obama's Executive Actions if Elected

Since Sunday, when news of the decree got out, conservatives have rejected what they claim is an attempt to limit Americans' right to bear arms as outlined by the Second Amendment.

Real estate magnate and Republican frontrunner Donald Trump accused Obama on CNN Monday of preventing citizens from buying arms.

A day earlier, Trump had declared at a rally he will roll back the measures if elected as president.

Sen. Ted Cruz, who is placed second in polls, launched an online signature campaign to "fight back against Obama's unconstitutional actions."

Another promising Republican candidate Sen. Marco Rubio also told broadcaster Fox the measures will not serve to prevent crime or violence.

"Barack Obama is obsessed with undermining the Second Amendment - an important protection our Constitution recognizes and defends for us, and he's looking for any way possible to undermine it. He's been doing this forever," he said.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also spoke out against the move and called Obama a "petulant child" accusing him of "wanting to act as if he's a king, as if he's a dictator."

Meanwhile, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson tweeted the executive measures proposed by Obama will merely "regulate the freedom of law abiding citizens."

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has been unable to move his poll numbers up, also took to social media to promise he will end the executive actions and protect the Second Amendment if elected.

Meanwhile, the main Democratic contenders backed the president and defended the scope of the measures to control access to firearms.

"Thank you, @POTUS (acronym for President of the United States), for taking a crucial step forward on gun violence. Our next president has to build on that progress-not rip it away," wrote Democratic front runner and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton on Twitter.

In a statement, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders accused Republicans of being "more loyal to gun lobbyists than our children."
