UNICEF calls for protecting children from horrors of war

UNICEF called on the international community to protect children from the horrors of war and end the deadly "new normal" of attacks on children today.
It pointed out that the year 2024 was one of the worst recorded for children living in conflict zones, so – it stressed – “we are witnessing a brutal violation of children’s rights, and we cannot hear another excuse”.
“For starters, citizens around the world can refuse to ignore child suffering or to remain silent when there are attacks on children, because conflicts seem too distant or the result of too complex political issues,” it said.
The United Nations agency urged us to repeat again and again to leaders, at the national and international levels, that one of the pillars of our shared humanity is founded on protecting children caught up in conflicts that they have in no way helped to create.
“We must demand leadership capable of taking decisive action to prevent and stop attacks and violence against children living in war zones,” UNICEF said.
