Americas Baseball Series: Lumberjacks for the gold medal

The Lumberjacks of Las Tunas, Cuban representative to the first Americas Series in baseball, will go for the gold medal, their mentor Abeicy Pantoja said today.

The coach who has led the so-called Eastern Nightmare to win two consecutive crowns in domestic championships, said the recently created Baseball Association of the Americas gave a lot of promotion to the event scheduled for Nicaragua at the end of January and that they hope to meet expectations.

Pantoja said they began preparation with some players and will gradually incorporate the rest until they assemble a competitive team that can meet the goals they have set.

«Taking into account that we could be chosen for this championship, we talked with all the players and they understood the importance of participating in the Provincial Series, because in addition to staying in shape, it gave more quality to our national pastime», stressed the strategist.

According to him, only one of those who are in the pre-selection did not participate in that tournament, but he was preparing every day in the “Enchanted Forest” of the Julio Antonio Mella stadium.

Pantoja emphasized that his green and red team has remained in action, because on the days his players did not have games in the provincial competition, they went to their headquarters and did their physical and technical work.

The team is still waiting for the approval of the reinforcements requested from the Cuban Federation of this sport, who will be wearing Las Tunas uniforms from the first official training session, which will be on January 4.

In addition to the Nicaraguan hosts, teams from Panama, Colombia, Curacao and Argentina will be in the Series of the Americas.
