The organizers of the event explained that the repatriation of a human body can cost between US$2,500 and US$5,000, while the cost for insuring a worker is less than US$50 per year. The introduction of the Repatriation Certificate has seen 1,950 families benefitting, receiving much-needed help to bring bodies home for burial.
Human rights organizations have condemned U.S. employers for hiring migrant labor and not providing them the same rights as U.S. citizens. Undocumented immigrants have little access to health services, insurance or other types of state benefit.
