UN Chief Calls for Clear, Shared Vision on Climate Change
especiales
“The human and environmental costs of climate change are becoming unbearable now,” Ban said at the opening of a conference attended by over 100 world leaders, representatives of NGOs and figures from the business world.
He called on all governments to commit to a significant universal agreement on climate by 2015.
Next year’s conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris is expected to produce an agreement to limit emissions of greenhouse gases.
Ban said the international community has never faced a challenge of this nature. “To overcome this storm, we need to get to work. We all need a clear and shared vision,” he said.
As for the investment required to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, the benefits of planning are monumental, according to Ban.
