470 Cuban Athletes to Attend the Central American Games in Veracruz

Cuba will send 472 athletes to the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Mexican city of Veracruz this year.
The head of the Cuban Sports Institute’s High Performance Department, Norge Marrero, told Prensa Latina that they will add to that number other specialists in swimming and skating, pending official ratification of the scores provided for the Central American and Caribbean Games. Marrero said that Cuba will take 540 to 560 athletes to take part in 34 sports and that of the total medal contests (443), Cuba will only compete for 324.
After the Cuban artistic gymnastics team won four silver and two bronze medals as well as tqualifying for the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games, the Cuban artistic gymnastics teams reached their goal positioning the women's team fifth and the men's team sixth in the standings. Now, the Cuban gymnasts will be focused on the forthcoming Central American and the Caribbean Games in Veracruz, with Manrique and Yesenia playing a key role.
Carlos Uriarte, coordinator of communication, statistics and press for the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) said that in the Technical and Sports arenas, 52% of the athletes will be participating in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
“The next few weeks will see elimination competitions for boxing and wrestling, 90 days before the games begin we will have the names of every participating athlete,” Uriarte said.
The 2014 Veracruz Central American and Caribbean Games will begin on November 14 and last until the end of the month.
