The Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing are set to close this week. Latin America and the Caribbean are making a strong regional presence at the games.

The Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing are on its ninth day of competition. The games conclude this Wednesday. Over the weekend, Latin American and Caribbean nations made strides earning medals in several divisions.

The Venezuelan women's football selection made it to the finals after winning 4-3 against Mexico. After tying 1-1, the game entered into a penalty round where Olimar Castillo, Nathalie Pasquel, Deyna Castellanos and Nayluisa Cáceres successfully scored goals. Venezuela will play against China in the finals on Tuesday. China qualified for the finals after their game against Slovakia (4-2).

Jamaica is sweeping the games in track and field as Natalliah Whyte and Obrien Wasone won gold and silver in women's 200 meters and men's long jump respectively on Sunday. Jaheel Hide ran 110 meter-hurdles in 12 seconds winning gold. Martin Manley also earned gold for Jamaica running 400 meters in 46 seconds.
