WHO is asked to back Cuban doctors' nomination for Nobel Peace Price

The Cuba-Ethiopia Friendship Association asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to support the nomination of the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Through a letter addressed to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Association urged the UN agency to recognize the 'humanitarian and essential' cooperation by the Cuban doctors 'to defeat Covid-19' globally.

The text highlights the work done by the Cuban health professionals, especially in Africa, after WHO declared the disease a pandemic, due to the spread rate of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, causing the disease.

Some 52 brigades have arrived in up to 39 countries, giving assistance to 528,737 patients and already saved 12,285 lives, the letter sent to Adhanom Ghebreyesus, an Ethiopian biologist and researcher, said.

The World Peace Council formally registered the nomination of the 'Henry Reeve' International Contingent of Physicians Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, from Cuba, for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

Medical societies, scientific associations, political, religious and community leaders, intellectuals, organizations and civil rights activists, artists and personalities globally advocate for granting it.
