Numerous tributes are being held today in honor of Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, as his 99th birthday is commemorated on August 13.

The day begins at the José Martí Memorial with the personal photo exhibition “All the Glory of the World” by photographer Alex Castro Soto del Valle, featuring intimate portraits of the Commander in Chief through the artist’s lens.

Tomorrow, the documentary “Fidel is Fidel” by photographer and filmmaker Roberto Chile will be presented at the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts and Design in Santiago de Cuba. This valuable work captures key moments of the Revolution.

Another commemorative initiative is the dual exhibition “Rebirth” by visual artists Israel Tamayo and Henry Hechavarria, scheduled for Tuesday at the Cultural Workshop in Santiago de Cuba, marking both Fidel’s birthday and International Youth Day.

On August 13, the Provincial Gallery of Sancti Spíritus will inaugurate “Ideal Garden,” a personal exhibition by 2023 National Plastic Arts Award winner Zaida del Rio. That same day, the Provincial Gallery of Santiago de Cuba will open “Word, Image and Possibility,” showcasing images that reflect the relationship between Fidel Castro and Cuban and Latin American artists and intellectuals.

Additional tributes on August 13 include the opening of the Amelia Pélaez Art Instructors’ Salon at the Oscar Fernández Morera Gallery in Sancti Spíritus and the award ceremony for the children’s and youth contest “Dreams of the Homeland” at the Lolo Gallery Workshop in Matanzas.

These events collectively reflect the Cuban people’s deep respect and admiration for Fidel Castro.
