Literature and visual arts will converge at the space "El elogio tiempo" (Timely Praise), at Fayad Jamis bookstore in Havana, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Territorial Publishing System and Fidel Castro's 99th birthday (August 13, 1926).

Hosted by journalist and critic Fernando Rodriguez, the event features talks with writer, visual artist, and art critic Yanetsy Ariste and writer Luis Enrique Rodriguez, director of Ediciones Loynaz, based in the province of Pinar del Rio.

The space will make available to the public Ariste’s book “Oleo sobre Rosas,” which won the 2024 Chicuelo Prize for children’s stories, which was published by Ediciones Loynaz, among other publications from the label.

The exhibition “Huesped del Mundo,” also by Ariste, is another of the offerings for the occasion. This is a collection of small-format illustrations that emerged from the spontaneous interplay between monotype and line drawing.

According to the artist, who is also vice president of the Hermanos Saiz Association in Pinar del Rio, “each piece has only essential lines and goes between figuration and abstraction, evoking liminal beings: creatures that could be animals, ghosts, or traces of a dreamscape.”

This timely eulogy, also dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Hermanos Loynaz Cultural Center, aims to honor writers, books, historical events, and institutions celebrating this anniversary.

The space is sponsored by the Fayad Jamis Bookstore, the Roberto Fernandez Retamar Martiano Club, and the Culture and Social Sciences Sections of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country.
