As we get closer to the elections of municipal delegates in Cuba, to be held next Sunday 27, is worth remembering its transcendence, according to the views of the President of the National Assembly of the People Power in Cuba, Esteban Lazo.

With the election of municipal delegates, the core base of decision-makers of the future of Cuba is elected.

The also member of the Political Bureau stated so in a recent visit to the Electoral Council in the province of Matanzas, on the occasion of the carrying out of the dynamic test held last Sunday, pre-election.

By exercising our right to vote, we are also voting for a political system that does not exist elsewhere, where the people propose, nominate, elect, revoke, participate, control, and those elected have to report to those who elect them, which is basically an extraordinary strength, Lazo stated.

But, he pointed out, the work of the delegate cannot be linked to the solution of material problems. The delegate is not good or bad if he solves the pothole or not, he has to make arrangements to solve problems; he has to channel these issues and thus give ideas, but there are administrative institutions to solve each.

The delegate is not the top authority of the district, voters are. The delegate represents them and must channel the people’s concerns, not only in solving the problems of the district, but also the problems of the Government, and involvement of the State, Lazo noted in a report by the Cuban News Agency.

Lazo recalled during his visit to Matanzas that Fidel said that the delegate was a hero in the neighborhood because, in addition to representing the population, without getting paid, he also has to work, and this is recognized by the voters of the current 12,000 delegates nationwide, of which over eight thousand have been nominated again.

The process of candidates’ nomination for the municipal assemblies of People's Power ended on October 30, which began on September 4, and was attended by 6,746,867 voters in total, for 78.35%.

In total, according to the National Electoral Commission, 60,870 proposals were made, of which 27,221 candidates were nominated. Of them, 9,637 are women, 35.40%, and 5,307 young people, 19.49%.

In the dynamic test carried out last Sunday, November 20, and whose results were assessed as positive by the authorities of the National Electoral Council, the existing conditions were verified in the 23,480 polling stations, where they will take place —with the usual organization and discipline— the elections that, as Chairman Lazo stated, are core base to elect the decision-makers of the nation's future.
