Caracas, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela stressed its will to strengthen technical cooperation ties with the United Nations (UN) in the field of Human Rights, according to a report of a diplomatic source.

The Venezuelan representative to the UN in Geneva, Jorge Valero, called positive the recognition of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, of the progress made in matters of exchange and the impact of the unilateral coercive measures the United States Government executes.

Based on Bachelet's report, Valero pointed out the intensification of the siege undertaken by the US administration through the implementation of new punitive actions, the Foreign Ministry reported in a press release.

As part of the 45th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council, the diplomat reiterated that the economic aggressions has deprived Venezuela of assets for 30 billion dollars, thus stripping the State of essential resources to acquire food, medicine and medical supplies.

Likewise, he confirmed for early 2021 the visit of the special rapporteur on the negative impact of coercive measures on human rights, Alena Douhan, who insisted on several occasions on the need to cease this practice in the scenario of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The representative of Venezuela to UN-Geneva agreed with the high commissioner in advancing cooperation and technical assistance relations between the parties, reinforced by the letter of understanding signed in September 2019.

Venezuela will provide the official's office with all the assistance necessary for the performance of her mandate, within the framework of constructive dialogue and cooperation, said the diplomat.
