The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) strongly condemned the decision by the Government of the United States to reinstate Cuba on its illegitimate and unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, according to a statement released on Thursday.

Signed by PSUV First Vice President Diosdado Cabello and dated January 21, the statement described the measure as “arbitrary, groundless and profoundly contrary to the principles of international law.”

The political organization stressed that this act of aggression not only undermines global efforts for peace and cooperation, but also demonstrates the hegemonic desire to perpetuate policies of imperialist coercion against the sovereign peoples of our region.

“Cuba, a world symbol of solidarity, social justice and commitment to humanitarian causes, is once again the object of a hostile measure,” the organization denounced.

The PSUV pointed out that this unfounded action lacks “any ethical or legal basis, is a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and a direct attack on the sovereignty and dignity of a nation that has demonstrated to the world its firm commitment to peace and self-determination.”

It also strongly condemned this arbitrary decision and urged the peoples and governments of the world to “denounce these unilateral actions that violate the sovereignty and self-determination of nations.”

Venezuela’s largest political force considered it crucial that the international community resolutely defend the principles of justice, mutual respect and cooperation that should guide relations among States against any attempt at imperialist domination.

The PSUV reaffirmed its “absolute and unwavering solidarity with the people and Government of Cuba” and reiterated its commitment to building a multipolar world, based on equality, cooperation and respect.

It also ratified that Cuba “is not alone in its struggle for dignity and freedom against imperialist aggression.”
