New York, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) The blockade maintained by the United States against Cuba is a clear attempt to reverse the achievements of the working people who took over the power in 1959, union leader Chris Smalls said during an event.

The president of the Amazon Workers Union considered that the economic persecution against Cuba is illegal, and reminded how it has been condemned by almost all countries of the world in the United Nations.

As he asserted, all the lies spread around Cuba are due to the fact that large companies and the White House hate the example given to the rest of humanity by a small State.

In his address, during the International Conference for the Normalization of Relations between the United States and Cuba, Smalls also considered that Cuba represents a fortress for labor movements throughout the world.

Others also spoke during the event calling for the lifting of the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States and the withdrawal of the island from the list of terrorism sponsoring states.

Participants, such as Cuban-American and leader of Puentes de Amor solidarity movement, Carlos Lazo, academic William LeoGrande and professor August Nimtz, spoke out for the elimination of all restrictive policies that affect Cuba.

In the same sense, Massachusetts representative, James McGovern urged his compatriots to design initiatives to fight the blockade, which he considered to be the cause of all the difficulties inflicted on the Cuban people.
