Montevideo, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Lawmakers and supporters of Uruguay's Frente Amplio (Broad Front) accused President Luis Lacalle Pou on Thursday of pressuring Justice on a criminal complaint for the port monopoly concession agreement to the multinational company Katoen Natie.

A few hours after senators from the Broad Front initiated this process before the Public Prosecutor's Office, the president tweeted that the negotiating officials and signatories acted under his supervision and responsibility.

The complaint points to Minister of the Interior and former Minister of Transportation Luis Alberto Heber, National Ports Administration President Juan Curbelo, and others in subordinate positions as responsible.

Senator Charles Carrera criticized that 'after serious irregularities and illegalities denounced by the Broad Front in the handover of the port for 60 years to a monopoly,' in the container terminal in Montevideo, Lacalle Pou reacts in an 'intemperate manner'.

He claimed that 'the institutionality and the judicial system must work without any kind of pressure' and demanded respect.

Congressman Daniel Caggiani said that if the president wants to clarify something, he can testify when appropriate, the correct thing in a state of law is that Justice can act with absolute freedom, independence and without any kind of intimidation.
