The summer of 2025 has been the hottest ever recorded in the United Kingdom, with an average temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius, according to data from the UK Met Office.

“The United Kingdom has recorded its hottest summer in the entire history of observations (…) The average temperature in the UK, 16.10 degrees Celsius, surpasses the previous record of 15.76 degrees Celsius and leaves the summer of 1976 outside the five warmest summers,” the agency wrote on its X account.

The Met Office explained that the high temperatures were driven by prevailing high-pressure systems, unusually warm seas surrounding the country, and dry soils during the spring.

In addition, rainfall was below average, estimated at 84 percent of normal levels, with particularly dry conditions in central, southern and eastern parts of the country.
