Young people from Sri Lanka demanded the immediate removal of Cuba from the U.S.-created list of countries suspected of sponsoring terrorism, in an exciting event in honor of Ernesto Che Guevara.

The event, held in the well-known Garden of Che-place where he planted a tree during his visit to Sri Lanka in August 1959, was convened by the Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka (SYU), the youth wing of Janata Vimukti Puramuna (JVP), to mark the 57th anniversary of the capture and subsequent murder in Bolivia of the Argentine-Cuban fighter.

Before the Ambassador of Cuba Andrés González and Tilvin Silva, Secretary General of the JVP, the participants signed a large banner with the request for the urgent lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade and the unjust categorization that Washington maintains against the Caribbean nation unilaterally and despite the rejection of the international community.

Young people offered songs and poems in tribute to Che at the event, which was also attended by more than 400 people, including Maribel Duarte, the first secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Colombo, youth leaders and the association of Sri Lankan graduates in Cuba.

Regarding the activity, the Sri Lanka Guardian newspaper published the review Che Guevara: The Revolutionary Legacy in a Globalized World, in which it highlights that the principles of the Argentine-Cuban fighter on social justice, anti-imperialism and global solidarity continue to inspire movements at the international level.
