Sergei Lavrov: the West resists multipolar world

Moscow, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov, declared that Western nations oppose the existence of a multipolar order because that means the loss of their privileged position.
The main reason for the lack of balance in the world system is the unwillingness of the Western minority to accept multipolarity and abandon its hegemonic aspirations, Lavrov said during his address at the final day of the 8th International Primakov Readings Forum.
Lavrov argued that the unbalance of powers is changing but not in favor of the United States and its allied countries. As a result of this fact, they seek to maintain their hegemonic position and try to slow down the process of formation of a polycentric world.
According to Lavrov, the creation of such an order will require a long historical era, so the struggle is to accelerate these processes for the establishment of multipolarity. The American way of globalization is over, a new system is being built not depending on the whims of our former partners in the West” he quoted.
The Foreign Minister also expressed that the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) remains the main driving force of the West not only in relations with Russia, but also with other countries of the so-called post-Soviet space and other regions of the world. Lavrov added that the bloc will seek to penetrate rapidly into the Asia-Pacific region, after which it will claim the line of defense in the South China Sea.
