Sisters Yaquirurbis and Yemayankis appeared in the plot of the Cuban soap opera Renacer with their picturesque names and ready to try their luck in the big city, which included finding a good “match” to guarantee their future, according to the codes of the problematic aunt Iris.

I confess that, of the two, the name of the character played by Ariadna Sadé was the one I learned first, perhaps because the abbreviation was easier for the other and also because I love the idea that she is finding a professional path beyond “fighting” for Michel’s love at all costs.

In short, the girl has snuck into our living rooms through her charm, and that’s precisely where one of the biggest challenges for young actress lies:

“This character is part of the comic subplot of the soap opera. I don't have any kind of professional experience in comedy, and that's where the first challenge began. They are different characters, a bit over the top, so finding the middle ground to avoid not reaching or going too far is complicated, on top of that the lack of experience in television. The other thing: this character is presented as a "ridiculous" person, the easiest thing is to tag it (which happened to me on several occasions). What I tried to do was find the real person inside her, why does she say this? Why does she do things? My goal was that, sincerity, if she is funny it’s a result of the text or the situation.”

How did you get the character of Yemayankis in Renacer?

I got to Renacer through Rei Castañeda, the casting director. He called me to introduce myself and, well, I passed.

It's your first experience in television. How have you felt in this world?

“Television is a different world from theatre, which is what I was used to, but it was an enriching experience.”

What do Yemayanki and Ariadna have in common?

“We really don't look alike at all, the point of contact we have is fighting for what we want, even if it seems insignificant or too big to achieve.”

Yemayankis has already entered a path of improvement. Without giving away spoilers, of course, how much does this girl evolve and what messages does she want to share with the public?

“She still has a long way to go, “messing things up”, with Iris as a guide it's quite easy for things to go wrong. But at some point she realizes that she has been immature and has to be reborn."
