An essential figure in Cuban music and associated with as many genres as her own creative imprint, Liuba María Hevia returns to the stage in Madrid with an anthology concert.

The announcement was made today to Prensa Latina through Mayda Bustamante—renowned essayist, dance critic, and founder of Ediciones Cumbres—who highlighted the tenth edition of Alma Creadora, an event envisioned and founded by singer-songwriter Liuba María Hevia herself.

The concert will take place this Friday at the Centro Cultural La Elipe, near the heart of Madrid, coinciding with the week in which Cuba celebrates its National Culture Day (October 20).

With her velvety, vibrant, and joyful voice, the distinguished Cuban-Spanish composer will be joined on stage by guest artists: Peruvian singer-songwriter Julie Ferraudt, president of the Peruvian Musicians Association; Spanish artist Natalia Vega; and Cuban cellist Alicia Fernández.

The evening, scheduled for October 24, will also be dedicated to two masters of music—the incomparable Chabuca Granda and the composer, performer, and producer Rosa León.

This musical gathering will celebrate creative women and the high artistry they bring to the singer-songwriter tradition, reinforcing the visibility and appreciation of female talent in this genre.

In previous editions, Alma Creadora has paid tribute to artists such as Violeta Parra, Marta Valdés, Teresita Fernández, María Elena Walsh, Lucía Huergo, Miriam Ramos, Eladia Blázquez, and Sara González, among others.

Liuba María Hevia is considered an indispensable voice in both Cuban and Latin American music. With more than twenty albums to her name, she has recorded or collaborated with Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Ana Belén, Pedro Guerra, Marta Gómez, Manuel García, Omara Portuondo, Chucho Valdés, and Los Van Van, among others. Her hallmark is her ability to move effortlessly—and with exceptional artistry—across diverse genres such as the canción trovadoresca, habanera, guajira, son, bolero, ballad, and even the tenderness of children’s songs.

She has received sixteen Cubadisco Awards, the Extraordinary Award for Artistic Mastery honoring her career, the Order of National Culture, the Alejo Carpentier Medal, and serves as a UNICEF Ambassador for her advocacy on behalf of children.

The Madrid edition of Alma Creadora will have a second chapter, set to take place on December 8 in Havana, hosted at the Casa Vitier-García Marruz.
