Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, visited today the Industrial Fishing Branch Enterprise in Puerto Esperanza, Viñales.
In a meeting with workers and management, and accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Party's Central Committee, he was informed that the entity is close to reaching 300 metric tons of catch. This figure, which includes tuna, scaled fish, oysters, and conch, has not been achieved since 2019.
According to its director, Noriel Arteaga González, this year's production plan is set at 399 metric tons for its various markets. He noted that their conversion into an enterprise last year granted them greater operational faculties.
"The acquisition of fuel has been the main factor affecting the fulfillment of catch plans," he explained. "Therefore, we now have eight productive supply chains, three with private companies and the rest with units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces."
All residents of Puerto Esperanza received three kilograms of fish through the ration book system. The enterprise also supplies family support systems in that community and the town of Viñales, as well as a nursing home and a grandparents' home.
Díaz-Canel inquired about the average salary and profit-sharing payments, the operations of the small-scale processing plant, and the repair of wooden vessels in the company's workshop.
