Havana, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), the leading company of the seventh art in this country, presents Friday a wide range of achievements capable of maintaining the vitality of the industry during 64 years.

It emerged only 83 days after the Triumph of the Revolution. Six decades later, it is still active, renewing itself every day with projects aimed at promoting local filmmaking, giving space to young people, promoting the representation of women as filmmakers, and expanding its films.

ICAIC fulfilled the hopes of the national film industry, as it promoted the preparedness and consolidation of the work done by movie makers, such as Julio García Espinosa, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Santiago Álvarez, among others.

Its catalog covers some of the most successful films in the history of Cuban cinema, some of which are included in the international lists of the best films of the 20th century, as follows:”Memorias del Subdesarrollo” (Memories of Underdevelopment), “Lucia,” “Fresa y Chocolate” (Strawberries and Chocolate), “La muerte de un Burocrata” (Death of A Bureaucrat), “Los sobrevivientes” (Survivors), “Vampiros en la Habana” (Vampires In Havana), among others.

For more than six decades, relevant filmmakers have added prestige to the Institute’s history, including the protagonists of the exhibition “ICAIC De Cierta Manera” at Charles Chaplin movie theater, which displays photos of those involved in the development of the institution.

The 2023 National Film Award will be delivered to makeup specialist Magaly Pompa this Friday.

Pompa worked as a makeup specialist in more than 40 films directed by significant Cuban directors such as Manuel Octavio Gómez, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Humberto Solás, Enrique Pineda Barnet, and Fernando Pérez, as well as those from other nations.
