The traditional San Silvestre Race on December 31st around the capital's Sports City complex will be the festive closing of the national athletic calendar, organizers announced today.

The event, already a ritual for runners and families, will once again animate Havana's avenues in celebration of the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution. The circuit will encompass Vía Blanca, Primelles, Santa Catalina, and Boyeros streets, with the start and finish line in the parking area of the emblematic sports complex.

The race will cover 10 kilometers distributed over five laps, always following the direction of traffic—a course that demands perseverance and celebrates endurance. The start is set for seven in the morning, with a call one hour prior, when the city still yawns and the athletes fine-tune their focus.

Bib numbers from the 2025 Marabana race will be valid for all registered participants, while the organization will guarantee water at the start and finish lines, without preventing runners from carrying their own supplies.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each gender, with recognition for associations of persons with disabilities and special incentives to encourage massive participation.

The director of the National Commission for Marabana-Maracuba Races and Walks, Carlos Gattorno, told media that they will arrive well-prepared and expect a large turnout. He emphasized that the San Silvestre in Cuba "is about endurance, but also shared joy."

With this race, the curtain will fall on 2025, a fruitful year for Cuban long-distance running, marked by events with broad popular support such as Marabana, Maracuba, the Race for Mandela, Cacahual–Sports City, and Ideal Olímpico.

The horizon already points to November 2026, when Marabana will celebrate its 40th edition, a milestone that promises another memorable page in the nation's athletics history.
