Students from the school of the Russian Embassy in Cuba and youth from the José Raúl Capablanca Club participated this Friday in a chess tournament held in the Havana locality of Cojímar, as part of cultural exchange initiatives between the two countries.

As specified by the Russian Embassy in Cuba’s social media profile, the event included rapid chess matches and allowed players to demonstrate their strategic skills in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration.

According to the management of the Villa Capablanca Club, the event served as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the new generations of Russia and Cuba through the "sport of science."

José Benito Sánchez, President of the Club, stated that the activity demonstrated "the interest of young people in keeping the Island's chess tradition alive."

Larisa Sokolova, Director of the school at the Russian Embassy, expressed that the meeting "strengthened the friendship among the students and opened prospects for future joint initiatives."

At the conclusion of the event, the organizers presented commemorative diplomas to all participants in recognition of their effort and dedication.

The competition falls within the framework of cultural cooperation actions promoted by the educational and sports institutions of both countries.
